As soon as the Monsoon season begins, visitors flock to this enchanting place with spectacular waterfalls situated in Kokkayar Panchayat in Idukki district. These waterfalls are located on the both sides of Wembley - Urumbikkara road. The water flows down from the high rocks on the Urumbikkara hills making it a scene of intoxicating beauty. The number of tourists to Vellapara has significantly increases in the past few years. To reach this beautiful place, by travelling from Kootickal town which lies 1km away from Mundakkayam and take the Kokkayar-Wembley route to reach the waterfalls. You can also reach here via Wembly junction road which is just 1½ km away from the falls. The sight of this vertical drop of water from a height of more than 700 feet is breath-taking. This may be one of the tallest waterfalls in Kerala. The water that flows down from the Urumbikkara hills starts to gain momentum and flow over the rocks forming froth giving it an appearance like milk and this is what attracts the visitors who throng to see the stunning waterfalls. Please note that you will have to travel through a private road for about 1km at the Polachira bend and only jeeps can ride through this road. There is another beautiful waterfall at Vadakkemala too. The concerned authorities must pay attention to this marvellous route so that this place gets a prominent place among Kerala’s tourist destinations
