Oman is a beautiful nation that shares its border with UAE, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The people here are very friendly and living cost affordable. Seen through a tourist’s eye, Oman boasts of stunning beaches and magnificent mountain ranges, never ending roads, the date palms, the architectural wonders and the lush green agricultural fields. Nature has bestowed her blessings on this tiny nation with beauty. The villages on the foothills can be reached once you enter the off-road from the main road and ride uphill. Roads here are narrow. Always keep in mind to park properly at the parking spaces so that the locals can drive their vehicles without any hindrance. This is one of the reasons why the locals do not favour tourists coming to their village. These villagers want to lead a peaceful life and hence dislike outsiders trying to upset their quite life. There are many villages in Oman which have refused entry for outsiders’ due to such disturbances. Wakan is a tiny mountain village in Oman that lies 2000m above sea-level. It is situated in the Western Hajar Mountains overlooking the vast, dry Wadi Mistal below. One of the main features of Wakan is ‘Al Falaj’ (Falaj system) which is a traditional irrigation system of Oman. The ground water is tapped into at the mountain sides and then directed into channels to the terrace plantations and settlements. It is an amazing method which use no engineering skills but only gravity to flow the water to the various destinations
