Lonavala is a beautiful hill station situated next to the Mumbai-Pune Express highway in Maharashtra. Lonavala means ‘resting place of stones’. Lonavala is a part of  sahyadri hills which offers a breath-taking experience of nature’s lush green beauty and an awesome weather. The Buddha monasterial caves known as the Karla caves here will astound you with its beauty. The caves had 2-3 storeys carved into a rocky hillside to provide accommodation for the travellers travelling through this region which was a major trade route in the olden days. This was the place which marks the division of North and South India. The most spectacular sight here is the Buddha Monastery which is 45m long and 14m tall. Lonavala is famous for a traditional sweet made of jaggery and peanuts known as ‘chikki’. We can also buy delicious candies made of dry fruits, mango and pineapples here. The Lonavala lake comes alive only during rainy season and so it is also known as the ‘Monsoon Lake
