Golconda fort was built by the Kakatiya dynasty that ruled the region for two centuries beginning from the 16th century. Golconda was renowned for the diamond mines there. The world-famous Kohinoor diamond, the Hope diamond are the few famous diamonds that were produced from the mine here. Golconda was the capital city of the Qutb Shahi dynasty and it was these rulers who expanded and fortified this structure in its present state.
Hussain Sagar is the largest heart-shaped lake in the world. This beautiful lake was built in Hyderabad by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in the year 1563. It is already placed in the tentative list of world heritage places of UNESCO along with the other Qutab Shahi monuments. This lake was declared as the ‘Heart of the World’ by UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) in 2012. Spread across an area of 5.7 square kilometres this lake has many parks, gardens and boating areas around it. But the main attraction here is the monolithic statue of Gautama Buddha which is 18m tall and erected in the middle of the lake.
