Louvre Museum, situated in Paris, is the world’s largest historic museum. It is so large that it’s impossible to view all the exhibits here in one day. There are many priceless antiquities, paintings and statues in this museum. It has an area of 60600 square-metres in which around 35000 exhibits are present. It is estimated that around 1 crore tourists visited the museum last year alone. This magnificent building which was earlier known as the Louvre Palace, was constructed in the 12th century by Philip II. It was opened to the public as a museum in 1793. Any tourist who comes to Paris cannot leave the city without seeing the world famous Da Vinci painting, Monalisa which is exhibited in Louvre Museum. Kept safe in a bullet-proof glass shield 2½ feet long and less than 2feet tall, this painting is the most frequently visited, most written and most replicated, most imbued art work whose value cannot be correctly assessed. This invaluable painting is a must-see for all Paris visitors.
