Palakuzhy is a beautiful village in Kizhakkanchery Panchayat, Palakkad district. This picturesque village lies 18km away from Vadakkanchery. Palakuzhy is a place surrounded by hills. On the East lies the Nelliyampathy and on the West, is Peechi-Chalakudy. Since it is a highland, you can see the Mangalam Dam and the Peechi Dam from here. This region which is covered with snow during rainy season, is a tourist destination. The people here are the descendants of those who had migrated years ago from Pala, Kanjirapally and Thodupuzha. Most of the people indulge in organic farming. The main crops are pepper, nutmeg, coffee, rubber, cocoa, coconut and arecanut. The migrants had to fight against the wild animals and nature to grow crops here. Palakuzhy is a region of wildlife. The major attraction here is the Thindillam waterfalls. Although it is considered a danger zone, adventurous tourists can climb down and watch the waterfalls from below. A mini hydro-power project has been initiated under the supervision of Jilla Panchayat. A dam is being constructed for this purpose. Another attraction here is the Ponmudi trekking. One can see the Eastern parts of Trissur districts and Chalakudy from the top of this hill. Since this place is unknown to many, it is yet to be a part of Kerala tourism. Those who wish to visit Palakuzhy can avail the private bus or the K.S.R.T.C bus that provide service from Vadakkanchery.
