Kuttanadu is a delta region formed by Kerala’s four prominent rivers (Pamba, Manimala, Achankovil, Meenachil) and the Vembanadu Lake. It is on the banks of these rivers that you can enjoy the beauty of Kuttanadu. To enjoy the beauty of the lake, there are many facilities at Alappuzha like house-boats, Shikara and small boast which will take you for a wonderful safari in the lagoon. The C-Kuttanadu boat is an ideal water transport that will take you through the lagoon for a minimal rate. This boat begins its journey from the Jetty near Alappuzha KSRTC bus stand at 10.30 in the morning and reaches back at about 1 in the afternoon. The upper-floor is for the tourists and the lower-floor for the passengers. Ticket rate for one-side journey is Rs.40. To get back to the Alappuzha, you must buy an extra ticket. This safari starts from the canal lying parallel to the road, passes through the town and ends its journey at Punnamada Lake. Once we cross the starting point of the boat race competition here, the sight of the vast lake and the lush green trees on its banks will disarm you with their beauty. Since the fields in Kuttanadu lie lower than the sea-level, strong bunds are constructed and a number of water channels are provided to drain the overflow. The breath-taking beauty of Kuttanadu with its picturesque scenes of coconut trees tilting towards the lake and the lush green vegetation everywhere will present an amazing experience for the tourists.
