Karlad lake is one of the most beautiful lakes situated at the foothills of Wayanad. Karlad is a natural lake popular for kayaking. This lake was an unknown spot until the Tourism Promotion council decided to turn into an adventure camp. Rowing an air-filled kayak is the most popular sport here. Two persons can ride in a single kayak using oars to move around in the lake. For a 20minutes ride, you must pay Rs.230. Another attraction here is the ‘Zipline’. Built at a height of 60 feet, the Zip-line goes all the across the Karlad lake to an approximate distance of 240 m using a safety belt tied on to a line. It takes just 7 seconds to reach the other side of the lake. The rider is taken back to the starting point by a boat. This is the first ever zipline built across a natural lake in India. The experience is mesmerizing. The ticket rate for this wonderful experience is Rs.290. Other than kayaking and zipline, Kayak tourism also offers seat boats. And wall climbing which allows the visitors to climb the wall like a Spiderman. The ticket rate is Rs.30 for an adult and Rs.10 for a child.

This charming lake was formed after a massive landslide that happened two decades ago in a private property. The Thariyode Panchayat bought the lake in 1999 along with the 3 ½ acres of land close to it. Later it was handed over to the District Tourism Promotion Council. The park was opened for the visitors on 115th august, 2010. Almost 80 lakhs were spent to provide the present facilities here.
