Marottichal, a beautiful unexplored place in Thrissur has two waterfalls. Ilanjpara waterfall is the biggest and the most beautiful water fall here. A 10-minute walk from the road will take you to the first waterfall known as Olakkayam. This is a small waterfall. During summer season, there is less water here and hence the waterfall is nothing much to see. To reach the Ilanjpara waterfall, the visitor must walk for another 3-4 kilometres through a forest path. The journey through the jungle path is an amazing experience because one can see tiny waterfalls and rivulets on the way. One has to cross these rivulets to reach the main waterfall. During rainy season, small trees are cut across the streams as make-shift bridges for the travellers. The journey towards Ilanjpara waterfall is difficult during both summer and winter and most of the families usually go back after watching the smaller waterfalls.
Popularly known among locals as ‘Kutthu’, Ilanjpara waterfall is a stunning visual treat. Parallel to the waterfall, you can see a huge rock. The view from the top of this rock is breath-taking with the sight of lush green forest on one side and the marvellous waterfall on the other side. If you are an adventurous person you can even try climbing up the waterfall. Visitors who bring food must take care not to pollute the surroundings. Most of the land on the way to the waterfall are agricultural fields owned by the farmers here.
