Kappil beach is the main attraction of Varkala. This beautiful beach has the Arabian sea on its west and the Edava Narayana Kayal on its east. This stretch of stunning beach has sandy soil and a calm and serene atmosphere. Far away in the horizon, you get a stunning view of the sea waves. On one side of the road, there are concrete seats and on the other side badam trees. As you get down from the bus, the first sight that welcomes you is the Kappil Bhagwati Temple. The temple has a beautiful Sreekovil. You reach the beach passing this Sreekovil and the palm-roofed rest-houses and walking across the bridge. This bridge looks lovely with its white handrails and huge ad-boards, black road divided by broken white lines. This along with the mystic shade of the badam trees looks like a movie shooting site. The place is calm and quite with occasional movement of vehicles. Just standing there on the bridge looking at the waters below, makes you feel happy.
The badam leaves sliding across the rippling waves, the beautiful white sand under the crystal-clear water, the group of coconut trees which give the place a salient feature of an island; all provides a vibrant feast of beauty for the eyes. As you get down the steps, a red path awaits you with a gorgeous sight of coconut trees and pine trees bowing towards the lake. Visitors can sit on the concrete barriers and enjoy the beauty of both the lake and the sea. Kappil beach is the ideal holiday destination for all those who like a calm and serene atmosphere. The sunset seen from here is a breath-taking sight. Many famous photographers have captured its beauty in their lens. People who like boating can avail the facility provided by the Priyadarshini Boat Service or walk through the beach road that goes up to Varkala.
