Sunbird Resort is an exotic forest region with varieties of birds, flowers, butterflies and blooming trees. There are 6 varieties of sunbirds here. The sweet songs of different birds give us a feeling of being inside the deep forest. This beautiful resort lies in 14 acres of land. It was opened in the year 2008 and is situated just a few kilometers away from Meenangadi.
This region has many rare species of trees. This eco-resort has its own garden where medicinal herbs for ayurvedic purpose are grown. Here you will find different types of palm trees and ten varieties of bamboo plants. There are 14o species of birds in the resort alone. The forest is full of beautiful flowers and rare species of plants. You can see many varieties of orchid plants and a few nilakurinji flowers here. The garden has different types of fruits too like papaya, jackfruit, mango, apple, guava, sapote, orange, lemon, Jamba fruit, butter fruit and so on. The famous Kolagappara is situated nearby. It is a magnificent rock situated 3000 feet above sea-level. Trekking is available for the adventurous people. There is also a resort canteen which provides a fascinating view of the region. ‘Kolugu ‘means measuring tool of rice and ‘para’ is the stone, and its looks like a Kolagu made of rock. Farmers used to grow various crops here. This amazing place is one of the trekker’s paradises in Wayanad and provides an unforgettable experience.
