Odisha is a state on the eastern coast of India. Earlier this place was known as Orissa. The neighbouring states of Odisha are West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Odisha lies in the coast of Bay of Bengal. It was in 1936 that the British formed a province called Orissa. After independence, 24 small kingdoms were merged to form a single state in 1948-49.
