Rajiv Gandhi National Park can be reached via Katikulam in Wayanad and from Gundlapetu via Begur and Handpost. Kabani is the name of the river that flows through this region. This is one of the well-maintained parks in India. Accommodation is available at Handpost and H.D Kote where the room rent is in a range of 500-2500 Indian Rupees. There are many hotels ere which provide authentic Keralite food. You can but the safari tickets at the Antharsanthe forest reception. The cost is Rs.300/person for a 1½ hour safari. A special bus by the forest department takes you out into the park for safari. The safari is taken out in two batches in the morning and evening. Timing – 6am-9am and 3pm-6pm. You need to buy the ticket for the next day’s morning safari on the previous day at 4pm and those who wish to go out in the evening must book their ticket in the morning same day at 10 am. Each safari takes out 26 people in a batch. We have to provide them with our ID too. Only one safari per person is allowed in a single day. The forest has been divided into two zones for the sake of safari. The famous tiger tank is in this forest along with some water holes where the animals come to drink water during the summer season. Here we can see the marvellous sight of elephants and wild buffaloes grazing on the lush green pastures on the banks of the river. Only one zone can be visited during a safari. You can decide and inform the driver. The major attraction here is the presence of a black leopard. The forest reserve is a part of the Western Ghats and lies between Kerala’ s Tholpetty Wild Reserve and Karnataka’s Bandipur National Park. These three reserves along with Tamil Nadu’ s Mudumalai forest and Kerala’ s Silent Valley National Park, constitute the Nilgiri Biosphere reserve. Rajiv Gandhi National park is an open forest. Sighting the wild animals depends on your luck
