Once upon a time, the 14km Pulayanpara-Anamada road was one of the dense off-road path. It was one of the best off-road jungle paths that used to excite the travellers with a view of rich wildlife on its way. But now the panchayat here is building a concrete path and since only half the construction is completed, the travellers will have to either abandon their jeep and go for a long walk or take a different resort jeep from the other side of the path. Tourism is expected to rise once the road is completed.
This place is a part of Parambikulam Tiger Reserve buffer zone. This region is yet to be taken over by the government after the lease period like the Thoothampara, Rosady estates but entry of private vehicles is restricted through forest checkpoints. Jeep service is allowed though.
Today, the accommodation and tourist facilities here has improved with the construction of Mist Valley Resort and the ‘Karadi Bangalow’ nearby. The visitors get a stunning view of Sethumada, Pollachi and Palanimala Aliyar dam from the view-point here. Earlier there were no jeep service from Anamada to Varayatupara. But now the facility is available. The sight of clouds floating down like cotton is breath-taking and will remind you of the exotic scenery at Meesapulimala. When the mist is high during dawn and dusk, the long-distance view is almost impossible but walking through the misty path is a beautiful experience. Jeep safari at night will provide an opportunity to watch wild animals.
The region looks surreal and disarming with its mist-covered hills of Anamada and Varayatupara even during hot summer season. No wonder Nelliampathi is called the ‘Ooty of Kerala’. Seetharkund and Kesavanpara enhances the beauty of this exotic place.
