Hunza shares a border in the North-East with Uyghurstan (Xinjiang) which is an autonomous region of China and Pamir to the North-West. It was a princely state till 1974. It was annexed to Pakistan in 1974 by the then Prime Minister of Pakistan, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. It shares the border with Gilgit Agency to the south and the former princely state of Nagar to the east. Baltit (now known as Karimabad) was the capital of Hunza. Ganish Village is another ancient settlement here. Hunza lies in the stunning valley of Karakorum range, an extension of Kashmir. Hunza is believed to be a place with the highest life expectancy in the world. Most of them live up to an age of 120 years! Hunza is one of the best regions with mineral rich water, air and diet. Use of vehicles are minimal with people preferring to walk. The people here depend on dairy products including milk for their staple food and diet. It is believed that Hunza people never fall sick nor has there been a single case of fatal diseases like cancer.

Hunza is a difficult terrain to reach except during the period of May to October. The Karakorum highway that connects China and Pakistan is the only road to access Hunza. The region experiences heavy snowfall during winter and the road to Hunza is blocked with snow. The temperature is around 20 degrees in May and by the end of October it reaches 7 degrees. The winter is extremely cold after October.
